Using Sodium Chlorite to clean water containers.

Just wondering if anyone can help with this question.

I am using Sodium Chlorite to clean water containers [reused 5 litre supermarket] in which I fetch spring [untreated water].  The bottles can grow a green internal algae [?] after a time, and I have begun to use the chemical to disinfect and hopefully discourage the growth and obviously keep the bottles safe and clean. Other cleaning solutions seem to encourage algae.

I rinse the bottles several times and shake them vigorously to ensure I remove as much of the chemical as possible.

One bottle had developed an obvious green hue and I put in the solution, shook it well and left it. A haze developed inside the closed bottle.

Can anyone explain this? Could there be a health problem in using sodium chlorite?
