A busy week in the Chemistry Kitchen

My week has seen two days  at Ormiston Denes Academy in Lowestoft, and one in John Whitgift Academy in Grimsby, each with three shows. Next week I’m at Woodbridge School again and then start my travels in South Africa. But by far the most exciting news is that I’ve sold my first “Kitchen Chemistry” merchandise!

Ormiston Denes Academy in Lowestoft asked me to help put on some enrichment activities for their pupils and transitions activities for local primary schools. My six shows were spread over Monday and Tuesday, and were to a variety of age groups. It was a luxury for me to be able to leave everything set up and ready for the second day. I was accompanied by a student volunteer. It was lovely to have some of the pressure taken off. That also means that we have some photographs of the show.

The local press visited on Tuesday, which resulted in a nice little piece in the paper, and a short video on their website. Check it out on the Eastern Daily Press site.

I did much the same at John Whitgift Academy in Grimsby on the Friday. I had not been looking forward to the drive up there, but it turned out to be painless. The only slight hitch was that Google took me to the exit of the school, and as the building was practically hidden by houses the entrance proved not to be obvious!

I was looked after very well and able to use their lovely theatre (which doubles as a local cinema) to perform my three shows. I think that is probably the limit of my range for a day trip, though, as it was a three hour drive in one direction and I was dreading being delayed by traffic, accidents, or – the most likely hazard in that part of the country – farm machinery.

Next week I’ll visit Woodbridge School again, to play a part in a year-long STEM enrichment programme, and the very next day I’ll get on a plane for my annual trip to Scifest Africa.

But I have saved the very best for last. Head over to the shop to get hold of your very own Kitchen Chemistry tea towel or apron. The first examples have been sold, and the new owners are very pleased with them.

Excellent presents for all the Kitchen Chemists you may know.
